Introduction

This wiki entry will help you learn about the internet proxy server, including how to connect, and what you can expect from it. Currently the server is implemented on an Ubuntu Jaunty machine running Squid Stable2.7. User authentication is required for this proxy for statistical purposes. The sole purpose of this server is to give those, within the CTWUG community, the ability to browse websites which they could not have done before, for any given reason.

Website offerings

The current list of websites accessible via this proxy can be viewed in the Allowed-Websites page. This page will be updated constantly with more websites depending on the users requirements.

How to connect

To connect to this proxy, you will need to contact Toady via IRC in order to get a username/password of your choosing. Currently there is a project underway to setup an internal WEB UI whereby users can do self-registrations as well as editing and/or changing their passwords should their login details become defective for any reasons whatsoever.

Once a username/password has been registered to you, you will then need to insert the server/proxy details into your web browser.

FAQ

Q: The server will not accept my username/password, and after several attempts I eventually get an error "Cache Access Denied"? A: There Could have been a fault with the registration of your username/password. Please contact Toady to have yourself re-registered.

Q: When accessing a website, I get "Access Denied"? A: This is probably because the website you are trying to access is not in the "Allowed List". Please see Allowed-Websites for a list of accessible pages.

Q: The page doesn't load properly? A: The reason for this is, some sites require access to other pages/url's for their content. Sometimes these are not added so please inform Toady of the url's that need to be added. To view the URL's required, in firefox, Right-CLick the mouse and select "View Page Info", a window will open up and then select "media". You will see URL's different from the site you are accessing, which will need to be added. See Below:
