What is CTWUG Statusnet?

CTWUG Statusnet is a microblogging service similar to Twitter, it runs on software that's called StatusNet.

You will need a valid dns entries for this service to work, please refer to the Ctwug servers page for a list of dns servers on the wug.

Jabber Commands

You can do almost anything from within your jabber client by sending commands to the statusnet user:

  • on: Turn on notifications. You'll receive copies of messages by people you subscribe to.
  • off: Turn off notifications. You'll no longer receive Jabber notifications.
  • stop: Same as 'off'
  • quit: Same as 'off'
  • help: Show this help. List available Jabber/XMPP commands
  • follow <nickname>: Subscribe to <nickname>
  • sub <nickname>: Same as follow
  • leave <nickname>: Unsubscribe from <nickname>
  • unsub <nickname>: Same as leave
  • d <nickname> <text>: Send direct message to <nickname> with message body <text>
  • get <nickname>: Get last notice from <nickname>
  • last <nickname>: Same as 'get'
  • whois <nickname>: Get Profile info on <nickname>
  • fav <nickname>: Add user's last notice as a favorite

Using Groups

To reference a group and send a message to everyone in that group, add an exclamation mark before the group name. To send a message to everyone in the gamers group, enter the following:
COD game starting now !gamers
and it will be sent to everyone in the gamers group.

Other tips

  • When replying to other users, add an @ sign before their name. When you do this the software will notify them that you have mentioned them. Example:

@kloon thanks for the ice-cream!

  • If you like a message and think more people should read it, click on the little heart icon next to the message. Popular messages will automatically be featured on the sidebar.
