What role are you running for?

Why do you think you are suitable for the role (qualifications/experience)?

I am the main admin for most of the Helderberg high sites and have been fulfilling a role very similar to Chairman (but on a smaller scale) in the area for almost a year. In that time we've grown from a single HS (2 sectors, 1 backbone and about 6 active users) to 7 HS (7 sectors, over 10 backbones and more than 25 active users). We're still growing.

I have many years of leadership experience, leading teams of software developers as well as architecting many software systems.

I've been involved with all forms of networking (wired and unwired) as well as network-related programming for the past 15 years.

In short, I've got the experience, the ability and the motivation to lead the WUG from the front.

If elected, what are your WUG-related goals for the next year?

• Improve communication between the users and the committee/admins
• Push 'new' technologies - nv2, 802.11n etc
• Try to get more High Sites up and running

What actions would you take to achieve these goals?

• Organise CTWUG meetings with specific goals aka sub-committees
• Have regular (monthly?) email/forum updates on committee activites
• Appoint a communications person
• Identify High Sites/backbone links that can be upgraded with new tech, and upgrade them
• Spend some time figuring out why new High Sites are taking so long
• Make it easier to set up a new High Site - kit/paperwork/logistics etc

Since the previous election, what have you done to improve the WUG?

I spent a lot of time answering questions on IRC, answering support tickets and helping people to create new links

I was the first person on the WUG to try out nv2 on a sector (Rage) and as far as I know, the first to get MIMO working (with pmurgs' help!) on a long link using Mikrotik equipment. That link is also the longest link in the WUG.
